Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of Mou. “Mou”, “we” and “us” mean the developer of Mou. By installing or using the Mou desktop app, or by using the website at mou.one, you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not install or use Mou.
If you use Mou on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have the authority to accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that organisation.
Our Privacy policy explains how Mou handles your information. It forms part of these terms.
The service
Mou is a desktop app for macOS and Windows that brings your notes, tasks, mail, calendar and files into one place and prepares the follow-up work for you to review. What Mou can do depends on what you connect to it:
- Mail, calendar, Drive, contacts and tasks features need a connected Google account.
- AI features need an API key from an AI provider that you choose.
- Shared Projects use a cloud database that we operate, so that the members of a Project can see the same tasks, notes and events.
You need a computer that meets the app’s requirements, an internet connection for the connected features, and the accounts described above. You are responsible for those accounts and for the devices you install Mou on.
Your Google account
When you connect Google, you authorise Mou through Google’s consent screen. Mou then accesses your Google data only as described in the Privacy policy, and only to provide the features you use. You can disconnect in Settings and revoke Mou’s access from your Google Account at any time. Your use of Google services is governed by Google’s own terms, and Mou is not affiliated with Google.
Bring your own key
Mou does not include an AI subscription. To use AI features you supply your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. That key is yours, and so is everything that comes with it:
- the provider’s terms of service and usage policies apply to the requests Mou makes with your key;
- the provider’s rate limits, quotas and availability apply;
- the provider charges you directly for what you use. Mou’s previews show an estimate of the tokens a request will use, not a price, and the provider’s bill is what you actually pay.
Keep your keys private. You are responsible for all use of your keys, including use through Mou.
AI output and the review gate
Mou uses AI to sort, summarise and draft. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, out of date or inappropriate for your situation. Mou is designed so that you review and approve every email, event, document or message before it is sent or created, and you should read each one before you approve it.
Once you approve something, you are responsible for it, including what it says, who it goes to and what it does. Do not rely on Mou for legal, medical, financial or other professional advice, and do not use it where an error could cause harm to people or property.
Some housekeeping actions, such as creating folders, syncing tasks and updating labels, happen as part of the features you turn on without a separate review step. The Privacy policy lists them. You can stop them by turning the related setting or automation off, or by not using the feature that performs them.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use Mou or mou.one to:
- break any law, or create, send or store unlawful content;
- send spam, bulk unsolicited mail or messages, or anything deceptive or harassing;
- abuse, overload or interfere with Google’s APIs, an AI provider’s APIs, the Projects database or this website;
- bypass the review gate, the licence or any other protection in Mou;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Mou, except to the extent that applicable law allows this despite this clause;
- copy, rent, sell, sublicense or redistribute Mou;
- infringe anyone’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
- access someone else’s data or Projects without their permission.
Your content
Your notes, tasks, messages, documents and everything else you create or bring into Mou remain yours. We claim no ownership of them. So that Mou can work, you grant us only the limited rights needed to run the features you use, for example storing a shared Project’s tasks in the Projects database so that its members can see them. Your Google data is handled as described in the Privacy policy and under the Google API Services User Data Policy.
You are responsible for your content and for having the rights you need to use it with Mou, including the right to share it with the members of a Project.
Licence
Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Mou on devices that you own or control. Mou is licensed, not sold. We keep all rights not expressly granted to you.
Mou is proprietary software. It is not open source, and you may not copy it, modify it, create derivative works of it or share it except as these terms allow. Mou includes third-party open-source components, which remain under their own licences.
Intellectual property
The Mou name, the Mou logo, the Mouchi character and its designs, the app, and this website and its content belong to us and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may not use them without our written permission, except as these terms allow.
If you send us feedback, ideas or suggestions, you agree that we may use them freely, without any obligation to you.
Google, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude, Gemini, Supabase, GitHub, Hugging Face, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Jira are names of their respective owners. They are used here only to describe what Mou works with and imply no affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement.
Updates
Mou checks for new releases anonymously when it starts and periodically while it runs. Installing an update is your choice. Updates may add, change or remove features, and these terms apply to them. We may stop supporting older releases.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of Mou, including the Projects cloud service, at any time. Where it is practical we will give reasonable notice of changes that remove functionality. We do not promise that Mou, the Projects database or this website will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free, and connected services such as Google and the AI providers may change or fail in ways we do not control.
Disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mou and mou.one are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Mou will meet your requirements, that AI output will be accurate, or that Mou will be free of errors or security vulnerabilities. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising from or related to Mou or these terms, however caused and under any theory of liability, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to Mou in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for Mou in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limitations, so some of them may not apply to you.
Termination
You may stop using Mou at any time by uninstalling it and, if you wish, deleting your data folder. We may suspend or end your access to the Projects cloud service, or terminate this licence, if you breach these terms. On termination the licence ends, but the sections on your content, intellectual property, the disclaimer and the limitation of liability continue to apply.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed. If you keep using Mou after a change, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree with a change, stop using Mou.
